New research council at the department

The Head of the Department Jessica Abbott has decided to establish a new Research Council to strengthen the department's strategic research work.

The council serves as an advisory body to the Head of Department and includes five faculty members with broad representation from across the department’s research areas. Deputy Head of Department Fredric Carlsson chairs the council, supported by Administrative Manager Joakim Nilsson. The members also include Emma Kritzberg, Dimitrios Floudas, Stanley Heinze, Charlie Cornwallis, and Olivier Van Aken. The Head of Department may invite additional faculty members as needed to provide expertise on specific issues.

The Research Council is tasked with:

  • identifying and prioritising the need for academic recruitment
  • improving the conditions for researchers to advance their academic careers
  • developing research infrastructure and support functions
  • promoting an increase in external research funding
  • monitoring and enhancing research output and impact.

The Head of Department appoints council members for a three-year term.

With the council's establishment, the department has also phased out the Biology Department Infrastructure Group (BIG). The new council now assumes responsibility for infrastructure-related matters and connects them to the department’s long-term research strategies.
