Financing of doctoral students

Postgraduate studies in biology runs over 48 months. The basic principle for funding doctoral positions is that two years are financed by the faculty support (distributed at the division level) and two years by external grants. Deviations from this model can be made but must be justified with the educational purpose in focus and anchored on the division.

A financial plan that covers the doctoral student's salary and running costs is presented in connection with the notice of interest to admit a doctoral student and is also included in the doctoral student's individual study plan. The running costs must be sufficient to pay for the doctoral student's research and other educational activities.

In addition to the 48 months of education, doctoral students are expected to participate in teaching within the undergraduate education (maximum 20% of full time). This automatically leads to an extension of the doctoral position which corresponds to the teaching time and is paid for by the undergraduate education.

Under special circumstances, doctoral students can be admitted with scholarships as funding, according to criteria established by the Faculty of Science. You find the criteria on the Faculty of Science's website.
