Johannes Lehmann – visiting professor at the Department of Biology

Portrait of Johannes Lehmann. Photo.

One of the 45 new researchers recruited by Lund University is Johannes Lehman, who will be working part-time at our department during the next two years.

Why did you choose Lund University?

– I was specifically interested in exploring research collaborations around soil microbe dynamics, as well as innovative research environment with cutting-edge facilities such as light source.

Can you briefly describe your current research?

– Soil biogeochemistry that focuses on carbon persistence and aspects of soil organic matter distribution and diversity, as well as natural cycles of pyrogenic carbon and its management with biochar. In addition, I am interested in principles of ideation in scientific research, and the use of artistic practices and thinking in question creation and the development of a research community of purpose.

What will be your main research focus during your time at Lund University?

– Starting with investigation of organic matter distribution and the interaction of molecular diversity and organismal diversity with spatial heterogeneity and how it affects carbon mineralization. Exploring collaboration around Artificial Intelligence in carbon cycle science, as part of our AI-LEAF national AI institute and the AI4Science at Cornell University.
