Research communication

Research is not only new discoveries, experiments and insights for the initiated. You must also reach out with your research and your findings to obtain new grants, attract employees and arouse curiosity. You must quite simply communicate.

The Staff Pages feature many tips about where and how you communicate with wider society, write opinion pieces, and popular science articles. There you will also find the principles for research communication. At the department level, we mainly communicate online, through the press and social media.

Our online research communication

On the departmental website, we address research which is new, which needs help from the general public, or people who are in the process of employing new staff. Our website contains dynamic information that we highlight on our landing page as necessary.

News

Under the news heading, the department’s landing page carries new research about which our communication officer Anders Örtegren has written press releases or informed the media.

Citizen science

Enlisting the general public to enable the collection of large amounts of data is something several of our researchers are engaged in. Current projects requiring help are listed under the research tab. Sometimes, we also display them on the landing page. If you need help with your citizen science project, please contact Inger Ekström.

Meet our researchers

Under the heading "Meet our researchers", we will have interviews with people who are in the process of employing new people, who have received a major grant or who have achieved something else that we particularly want to promote. The items that end up here may also be displayed on the department’s landing page. Filmed interviews can be edited in various ways and shared on our social media channels. Our human resources administrators will provide us with information about who is in the process of employing new staff. However, Anders Örtegren welcomes your tips about any current activities you think should be displayed here.

The research portal/LUCRIS

Lund University’s research portal contains more static information on our research groups, research, projects and infrastructures. The part that is externally visible is called the research portal, while the part that requires you to log in to enter information is called LUCRIS. The Staff Pages contain a lot of information about LUCRIS including what information you can extract from the system. There is also a page of manuals and videos about how to enter various types of information. Anders Örtegren is responsible for LUCRIS at the department. Contact him if you need advice about LUCRIS.

The information on your research group’s page is organised under four headings. The first two, ”Description” and ”Research”, are to be available in both Swedish and English. The text is limited to around 1000 characters.

You can decide for yourself whether you want the next two headings, ”More about us” and ”More about our research”. It is fine to have information only in English under these headings.

Under the heading ”More about us”, you can list the senior researchers included in the research team and link to their profile pages. If the text allowed in the “Description” and “Research” boxes is insufficient, you can further describe the group’s research under the heading “More about our research”.

You can include a photograph (or a photo collage) on the research group’s page. Send the images and text for the research group pages to Anders Örtegren.

One example of a page in the research portal that uses all four headings is the research group Species, Adaptation and Coevolution.

People who are part of a research group are automatically retrieved from LUCAT. If a person does not appear, please contact your human resources administrator.

A project is a time-bound and delimited research activity. There are various types of projects, such as doctoral thesis projects, research projects and network projects. When you have received a grant and a contract, your LUCRIS publicist will ask you whether you want help creating a project in LUCRIS. You can also create the project yourself.

Your personal web page is called your personal profile in the research portal. To avoid duplicate pages, all the pages relating to the research staff are in the research portal. You enter the text and images on your personal profile page yourself.

Or research outputs as they are referred to in the research portal. A few times a month, the University Library imports recently published material from Scopus. You can add your missing publications yourself. If you need help or have any questions regarding publications, please contact the Biology library (external website).

Press releases

Do you have new interesting findings? Don’t hesitate to contact Jan Olsson to discuss a potential press release or tip to the media. Remember to think ahead. You will find guidelines for press releases on the Staff Pages.

Social media

Social media can be of great benefit to your research. You can find jobs and new collaborations, build networks and ask for help. Just be clear as to whether you are communicating as a private citizen or as a representative of the public authority, Lund University. Consult the Staff Pages for information about how to get started and what to bear in mind.
