Helene Bracht Jørgensen

Researcher

My background is a Masters in biology from Århus University, Denmark, in the subject “Feeding biology of Ground beetles”. After my masters, I worked with the same subject for 6 month in New Zealand investigating the effect of insect resistant maize (GMO’s) on ground beetle fitness via the herbivore Heliothis armigera. During my PhD from Lund University in collaboration with Danish National Environmental Research Institute in Silkeborg, I worked with feeding ecology of collembolans using different methods including DNA techniques.

I spent two years as a post doc at CEFE (Centre d’Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive), Montpellier, France, working with litter decomposition in tropical rain forest in French Guiana.

I returned to Lund University in 2007 and have since worked as a researcher in the group of Katarina Hedlund. I have worked in the EU-project SoilService and Ecofinders and am now working in the EU-project EcoServe. In all these project I have/am investigating the microbial communities in different farmland crop rotation intensities throughout Europe. I have also been involved in a systematic review project under Mistra, EviEM with the title “How does farming affect the organic carbon content of arable soils?” Within and beside these projects I have a special interest in biofuels and their influence on the soil and soil communities. I am also involved with the strategic research area BECC.
