What makes a winner in rich environments?
Sinead Collins, from University of Edinburgh in UK, will give a talk about "What makes a winner? Rapid growth, competition, and a trait reversion in rich environments".
We understand evolution almost entirely in terms of how populations adapt to deteriorating environments, but many anthropogenically-mediated environmental changes allow microbes to increase their cell division rates. I will discuss trait evolution in enriched environment, including the common result of trait reversion. I suggest that a more comprehensive view of adaptation is needed for global change biology.
