Career and labour market

154 alumni from the Master´s Programme in Molecular Biology (constituting 95 % of all graduates from 2011-14) were included in the investigation. 52% of those were international students.

After a Matsre´s Degree in Molecular Biology

47% of the alumni continued to a PhD-position (75% in Sweden and 25% in other countries). 42% had relevant work (i.e. within the molecular biology sector) and 3% had other employments. Finally, 3% had chosen further education (teacher, doctor etc) and 5% were unemployed.

The majority of the 69 alumni who were working had employments at universities/research institutes (30%) and in the private sector (42%), primarily at companies within the biotechnological and pharmaceutical sector. Another 10 % worked at hospitals. Finally, 6% were teachers, 1% worked for the state and 6% had other jobs not directly related to molecular biology. An identical investigation covering the Master´s students who graduated 2015-2017 is underway and seem to generate the similar positive results.
