A chart of career distribution within Bioinformatics
After a Masters Degree in Bioinformatics

A majority of the students (63%) continued to PhD positions, often very soon after graduation. 25 % worked as bioinformaticists, primarily within the computing industry. Many of these alumni had a Bachelor’s degree in Computing or working experience from programming before they started the Master’s program in Bioinformatics. Finally, 8% (two alumni) had other employments not directly associated with bioinformatics) and 4% (one alumni) was on parental leave.

This investigation was performed in by Christina Ledje and Lotta Persmark, Study Coordinators at the Department of Biology, Lund University.

An identical investigation covering the Master´s students who graduated 2015-2017 is underway and seem to generate similar positive results.
