Bioinformatics: Programming in Python BINP16

7,5 credits

The course is offered the first part of the autumn semester, and the medium of instruction is English.

This hands on course will give you experience and knowledge of programming in general and in Python in particular. The focus is especially on applications in bioinformatics, and the working environment is Linux. The course will develop your skills in Python but also in Bash and CGI (Common Gateway Interface).

Areas covered during the course are:

  • Computer hardware and software
  • Mathematical functions, methods and operators
  • Functions, methods and operators for strings and regular expressions
  • Conditional statements
  • Lists, tuples, sets and dictionaries. Iteration methods and functions
  • I/O (input/output)
  • Functions
  • Modules
  • Classes and objects

You will, during the course, hand in solutions to a number of problems, and the course ends with an exam.
