Borrow and access
We offer our services to students, teachers, researchers, and staff at the Department of Biology and Centre for Environmental and Climate Science. The Biology Library is also open for service to other borrowers who need information and literature in the biological disciplines. Through the Biology library you get access to printed and electronic books, journals and databases.
Students and employees at Lund University use their LU card when borrowing an item at the library. To activate the card for borrowing, you must log in to the library catalogue LUBcat with your student or LUCAT account and select patron category and home library. Others can apply for a library card in the library information desk. Don't forget to bring a valid photo ID.
Loan period and renewal
The loan period for a book from the Biology Library is 28 days. If none have requested the book, the loan will be automatically renewed for another period. The loan period for our student field guides is shorter, 14 days, with no renewals. Journals and reference books can not be borrowed but can be read in the library.
There are always two reference copies of the latest edition of your course literature in the Biology library. You can borrow these inside the houses during the day. Sometimes we have older editions that are available for a home loan. On the student pages on Lund University’s central student web pages, you can read more about how to obtain course literature.
If a book or article is not available at any of the libraries at Lund University, we can borrow it for you from another library. The Biology Library handles interlibrary loans for students and employees in biology and environmental science. Interlibrary loans are picked up and returned in the Biology Library. For further information see the lending conditions for borrowing material at Lund University.
Before you request an interlibrary loan, check-in Lund University's library catalogue LUBcat or the national library catalogue Libris that the book or journal is not available at any of the libraries at Lund University. If it is not available, fill in the Biology library's request form for Interlibrary loans. Usually, there is no fee for interlibrary loans, except when we must order the book from countries outside the Nordic countries.
