David Stuart is awarded the grant for his master thesis in biology titled Identification of  Viridis-k: An essential gene for chlorophyll biosynthesis in barley.

”I have known about it for a couple of weeks. Of course I am glad”, David Stuart says.

In his thesis he has identified an enzyme that is important to the chlorophyll biosynthesis in barley. He has used different crosses between barley cultivates and a yellow mutant and then performed detailed genetic analyses on the offspring.

An extract of the motivation reads: ”After hard work, practical as well as theoretical, he was able to find the gene that if mutated, resulted in the yellow leaves. […] The thesis is well written and David convincingly shows that he understands his research field and can discuss his results in a very mature way and put them into their correct context.”

Sparbankstiftelsen Skånes grant for best thesis on candidate level is awarded Arthur S. Chakwizira for his thesis in physics titled Mathematically modelling the coaction of cancer radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

They will receive their grants at the graduation ceremony on Sunday June 3.
