Senior Lecturer

I am broadly studying interactions within fish communities and the way processes at the individual level have community and ecosystem consequences. My studies are performed in a wide range of environments including lakes, streams and coastal marine systems. This has previously concerned issues such as effects of fish on the nutrient cycling, effects of benthic fish on the occurrance of alternative system states and the role of piscivorous fish in lakes. More recent initiatives include multidisciplinary projects on the management of coastal cod fisheries including population genetics, optimization of harvesting practises and seal-fisheries intyeractions from biological, economical and sociocultural perspectives. Currently, I am running two groups pursuing different research trajectories:

StreamTeam - This group deals with processes affecting the historical development of fish communities in streams and consequences thereof on the structure and function of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.  Of particular interest is effects of climate induced changes in temperature and flow dynamics, new wetland constructions and altered connectivity. The approach rests on field experiments and surveys including electrofishing and eDNA sampling.

AlienAlliance - This group evaluate the consequences of invasive alien species in aquatic environments. The group is mainly working on coastal ecosystems and consequences of the invasive round goby and Harris mud crab, two species that currently are expanding their distribution in southern Sweden. The group performes laboratory experiments to test for interaction strenght between invaders and native species, as well as field sampling and development of early detection methods (e.g. eDNA). The group is also devoted to make and projections of future distribution and developments of methods to combat future spread.
