The invasive slug in Sweden (Arion spp.)

In recent years the introduced Iberian (sometimes called Spanish) slug (Arion vulgaris) has exploded in numbers in Sweden. The species currently can be found in most habitats in southern to middle Sweden where both gardens and farmland can be seriously affected by high numbers of slugs. The lack of natural enemies contributes to their rapid spread across the country.

I analyze slugs collected from several regions in Sweden to investigate genetic diversity and activity of different genes. I would also like to know if there is hybridization with our native black slug (Arion ater).
