Bioinformatics: Programming in Python, 7.5 cr

This hands on course will give you experience and knowledge of programming in general and in Python in particular. The focus is especially on applications in bioinformatics. Working environment is Linux and the course will develop the students’ skills in Python but also in Bash and CGI (Common Gateway Interface).

Covered areas are:

  • Computer hardware and software
  • Mathematical functions, methods and operators
  • Functions, methods and operators for strings and regular expressions
  • Conditional statements
  • Lists, tuples, sets and dictionaries. Iteration methods and functions
  • I/O (input/output)
  • Functions
  • Modules
  • Classes and objects

During the course students will hand in solutions to a number of problems. The course ends with an exam.
