The science and its philosophy

Graduate studies in biology I

Course description

This is mandatory course for all PhD students in biology. The aim is to give a brief overview of biology in Lund, a discussion of the scientific method and its philosophy, the role of science in society, and the ethics of science. The course also deals with some practical issues such as laboratory safety, library resources, and science funding.

All students are asked to give a short presentation of their plans or ongoing work.

Course organization

The course amounts to one week full time studies.

Time-period

The course is typically given once a year, sometime in February/March
