PYTHON Bioinformatics programming - 21-25 Nov 2016

Course description: A need for basic programming skills is often identified in research projects where huge amounts of data is produced. This “crash course” will provide students with no programming experience with these skills. We will use Python as programming language and apply it on high throughput sequencing data (in this case, data generated with the Illumina sequencing platform as well as other biological data). However, other applications where programming is needed may be covered, if requested. Participants are kindly requested to bring their own computers. The computer has to be installed with a Unix based operating system (like any Linux distribution or Mac OS X). Maximum number of participants is ten. Former experience is neither required nor expected.

Course content:
Day 1. Get familiar with the Unix system. Simple shell scripting.
Day 2. Arithmetics and working with files.
Day 3. Strings and regular expressions.
Day 4. Arrays and dictionaries.
Day 5. Practice.
