Biologist from Lund new president for Europe’s ornithologists
Jan-Åke Nilsson became the new president at the EOU-meeting in Turku in Finland.
European Ornithologists’ Union organize ornithologists from Europe and Africa. At the conference in Turku members from 38 different countries participated. Among them were members from Nigeria and South Africa.
”In total we have approximately 1500 members and the number is growing all the time”, says Jan-Åke Nilsson.
Every second year EOU arranges a conference for its’ members. The conference takes place in different cities around Europe. This summer it was held in Turku in Finland, next time, in 2019, it will be held in Cluj in Romania.
European Ornithologists’ Union is a forum for the ornithological research in Europe and Africa. A major task for the EOU-president and his coworkers is to arrange the conference.
Jan-Åke Nilsson is an evolutionary biologist. His research centres around life history trade-offs and how these form strategies, which in turn affect reproduction and survival.
Jan-Åke Nilsson is head of the unit Evolutionary Ecology at the Department of Biology in Lund. He is also editor in chief for Avian Biology.
